FI: Kuurojen museo kertoo kuurojen historiasta Suomessa ja suomalaisen sekä suomenruotsalaisen viittomakielen vaiheista. Uudessa näyttelyssä on historiallisia esineitä ja kuvia muun muassa koulunkäynnistä ja ammattiopinnoista, yhdistystoiminnasta, vapaa-ajasta sekä perhe-elämästä.
Museossa hyödynnetään liikkuvaa kuvaa ja interaktiivisia osioita. Esimerkiksi näyttelyn johdantoelokuvassa herätetään henkiin suomalaisen kuurojen yhteisön merkkimies Carl Oscar Malm, joka perusti Suomen ensimmäisen kuurojenkoulun Porvooseen 1800-luvun puolivälissä. Viittomakielinen kulttuuri ja sen pitkä ajallinen kaari on myös yksi näyttelyn teemoista. Esillä on taidetta ja kulttuuria yli sadan vuoden ajalta kuvataiteesta esittäviin taiteisiin. Mukana ovat niin viittomakuoro sadan vuoden takaa kuin viittomakielinen rap-artisti Signmark. Museota ylläpidetään Kuurojen Liiton ja Työväenmuseo Werstaan yhteistyöllä.
Näyttelyyn voi tutustua viittomakielisten videoiden ja kirjoitetun tekstin muodossa suomeksi ja ruotsiksi. Englanninkieliset tekstit löytyvät QR-koodin takaa.
Näyttelytila sijaitsee Valkean talon pääaulassa ja on avoinna Valkean talon aukioloaikoina. Museoon on vapaa pääsy.
SV: Dövas museum berättar om de dövas historia i Finland, om viktiga platser för teckenspråksamfundet och om det finska och finlandssvenska teckenspråkets historia.
EN: The Museum of the Deaf tells the history of the deaf and sign language in Finland. The new exhibition includes historical artefacts and pictures of schooling and professional studies, associations, leisure time and family life, among other things.
The museum exhibits videos and interactive sections. The exhibition is introduced by Carl Oscar Malm, a marker of the deaf community who founded Finland’s first school for the deaf in Porvoo in the mid-19th century. Sign-language culture and its long time span is also one of the themes of the exhibition. Art and culture from more than 100 years, from the visual arts to the performing arts, are on display. From a sign choir from 100 years ago to sign-language rap artist Signmark. The museum is run in partnership between the Association of the Deaf and the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas. In addition to sign language, the languages of the exhibition are Finnish and Swedish. English texts can be found behind the QR code.
Open during the opening hours of the Valkea talo. Free admission to the museum.
