FI: Kansalliskirjasto on paitsi kirjasto, myös nähtävyys ja kulttuurikohde jossa mm. näyttelyitä ja kulttuuritapahtumia. Helsingin yliopiston kirjaston päärakennus on arkkitehti C.L. Engelin vuonna 1836 suunnittelema, ja valmistunut vuosina 1840-45. Kansalliskirjaston päärakennus on Suomen 1800-luvun alkupuolen empirearkkitehtuurin tunnetuimpia muistomerkkejä ja oman aikansa julkisten kirjastojen joukossa eurooppalaisittainkin huomattava. Laajennusosa Rotunda on rakennettu 1902-1906, arkkitehtina Gustaf Nyström.
SV: Nationalbiblioteket är inte bara ett bibliotek utan också en sevärdhet och ett kulturobjekt med utställningar och kulturevenemang. Bibliotekets huvudbyggnad är ritad 1836 av arkitekt C.L. Engel och byggd mellan åren 1840-45. Nationalbibliotekets huvudbyggnad är ett av de mest kända minnesmärkena över den empiriska arkitekturen under 1800-talets första hälft i Finland och betydande även bland de offentliga biblioteken i Europa. Rotundan är en tillbyggnad av arkitekt Gustaf Nyström uppförd 1902-1906.

The main building of the National Library of Finland is one of the most renowned landmarks of the early 19th century Empire architecture and is also significant among the public libraries of its time at a European level.
